Pirate Party for Captain Joey Squibb

Our Joey just turned 5 and I have wanted to do another pirate party for awhile now. Josh had one and it was so much fun that we decided to do it again. I spent about 3 weeks making pirate braids and planning this party, but it ended up fun for all. His invitation went like this...

Sail back on the high seas,
to the days of old,
It’s a party for all Matey’s
There’s great fun in store!

Ahoy Mates...
Ye be invited to Captain Joe Squibb’s Pirate Party

Chart yer course for xxxxx 6th Ave.
Fruitland, ID. (Captain’s Grandma’s place)
On Saturday the 4th Day of June.

We will be meeting at 4pm for some
swashbuckling fun, grub & kiddie spirits.

give us a call at 452-xxxx.

See ye there…aarrgghh!

When the kids arrived they started by coloring and decorating parrots that we attached to their shoulders. They didn't stay on their shoulders long, but I did get this shot of Gabe with Joey and he still has his parrot on his shoulder.
Next we gave the kids their goodie bags which had their pirate bandanas in them. Then we had some facepainting where we added mustaches, beards and scars on the pirates faces. And we made balloon swords. Then we tried to get a picture before they took off their bandanas. Here's Johnny all made up...
And here are most of the kids (we never rounded them all up at once!)

Now it was time for the games. First we had a Treasure Chest Challenge where we had a treasure chest filled with pirate coins and jewels. Some of the coins had numbers on them and they had to find a coin without looking that had a number on it. Each coin had a correlating prize. Like treasure chest banks, Pirates of the Carribean gum, necklaces and braclets & pirate paddleballs. The kids went 3 times each. Next we played Pin the Patch on the Pirate. Each little pirate received a spyglass for playing.

The next game was Sink the Pirate Ship. I made two pirate ship pictures and Danny attached them to some baskets that we had. Each team had to throw their "cannonballs" into the other ship's basket. The ship that was filled with the most cannonballs was sunk.

The team that lost had to walk the plank! Actually they all wanted to walk the plank.

Next we went on a treasure hunt. I never got the clues printed out so I decided to let the children on the hunt. I sat them down and told them the story of how pirates used to travel up and down the rivers nearby. One famous pirate named Captain Joe Blackbeard had left a teasure behind when his enemies were close to catching him. He hid it somewhere in the trees nearby. And thus started our hunt...

Once the treasure was found it was time for them to dig for the treasure. They all took turns grabbing handfuls of treasure that was buried in the blue sand. Some of the kids stayed there for 1/2 an hour digging. One of the older boys started a store so he didn't have to dig. He sold his candy from his goodie bag in exchange for jewels and coins. (Got to love kid's imaginations!)

After all the treasure was found we opened presents, ate nachos, and had cake.

Captain Joe became Captain Joe Blackbeard after his big brother gave him a make over (chest hair and all!)

We had a blast at our pirate party! Until next time Mateys...Arrgghh!
